The Southview housing development, located at 1820 33 Street SE, Calgary, is bringing much needed new housing to the neighbourhood at affordable rents. The site previously held 96 units of affordable housing that were demolished in 2014 due to age and disrepair. The majority of housing in Southview was built prior to 1980. This new development will provide between 200 and 400 homes, subject to the land use for the site.
Read MoreThe IC19, IC18, IC17 and IC16 outfalls located on the east bank of the Western Headworks Canal will undergo repairs in November. Repair work will begin with outfalls IC19 and IC18 the first week of November, followed by IC17 and IC16 in late November. Work at these outfalls will include reconnecting pipes that have separated over time, installing new riprap to reduce the water’s force before entering the canal, and restoring any areas on the slope that are disturbed during construction.

The final draft of the Chinook Communities Local Area Plan (LAP) is ready. Together with thousands of community members—including a working group, community association members, and development industry representatives—a local area plan has been created for the Chinook Communities. This means new policies to guide growth and change in the areas of Manchester, a south portion of Manchester Industrial, Bel-Aire, Britannia, Elboya, Mayfair, Meadowlark Park, Parkhill, Windsor Park, and a small eastern portion of Glenmore Park.
Read MoreIn order to facilitate construction in the area, the Government of Alberta is temporarily closing the Southview off-leash area on Provincial Land on the Western Headworks canal (near the 17th Avenue SE bus rapid transit bridge.) The closure is expeted to begin sometime in November and last for about a year.
The closure of this area is to enable to removal of large volumes of silt/sediment material from the canal. This will be an active construction area with heavy equipment hauling material, which requires additional space for equipment turnaround and maneuvering, staging of equipment and materials, and storage.

Call 2-1-1 and the Alpha House HELP team will be deployed when EMS or CPS response is not required. HELP aims to be onsite within 20 minutes, and works to divert socially complex, high need individuals from law enforcement response and unnecessary healthcare use at the street level.
Read MoreThe Inglewood Aquatic Centre has been identified as one of 13 City-operated recreation facilities that require major electrical repairs. While there is no safety risk for customers or staff accessing the facility, there is a risk the electrical system could unexpectedly fail. In consideration of Council’s prior decision to permanently close the facility and to reduce the risk of sudden impacts to customers and swim clubs, Inglewood Aquatic Centre will close on December 22, 2024.
While we understand and share in the collective disappointment at the loss of this notable recreation amenity in Ward 9, we also want to convey a few key points that lead to this decision.

Please be prepared for upcoming overnight closures rotating between Riverfront Avenue and Memorial Drive/Edmonton Trail NE beginning on September 23rd, 2024. The closures are anticipated to occur overnight (9:00 pm to 5:00 am) and last approximately four weeks.

Read MoreCaitlind Brown & Monica Ila are two Ramsay-based artists who have been working on an immersive mural for the underpass beneath the train line on 11th-12th Street SE. This underpass is an important pedestrian corridor and the primary connector between Ramsay, Inglewood, and the Bow River.
Together with the Ramsay Community Association, they’ve coordinated with both the City of Calgary and CPKC (formerly CP Rail) to animate the underpass with a bright and colourful mural. The mural design will be inspired by hyper-local histories, stories, and myths from the neighbourhood.
