Ramsay - Water Main Replacement - 26th Ave SE
The City of Calgary takes a proactive approach to protecting and replacing aging assets. The water main replacement program reduces emergency water main breaks and service interruptions by replacing corroded mains with new PVC pipe and adding protection to reduce the rate of future corrosion. Since 1980, this program has contributed to a 73 per cent decrease in the number of emergency water main repairs.
Water Main Replacement
The City of Calgary is replacing the water main on 26 Ave SE between 11 St SE and Highfield Rd SE. The water main replacement in your area is anticipated to begin October 14 to November 11, 2024. This may vary depending on the condition of soil, existing utilities and weather. We will proactively communicate any construction updates to those impacted by this work.
We are actively monitoring the ongoing feeder main repairs and our work will be dependent on the timing and completion of the repairs.
Construction Impacts
Temporary water service, and possible water shut offs for nearby buildings.
Temporary street parking restrictions and/or closures.
Vibrations, noise and dust due to compaction.
Additional traffic and congestion due to construction activities and vehicles; in particular, impact to accessing sections of back lanes and alleyways.
Tree pruning may be required for the safety of workers and to protect trees from accidental damage.
Regular hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
If sidewalks, curbs and gutters need to be removed they will be repaired to original or enhanced condition.
Work will be completed in phases to cover open trenches as quickly as possible.
Temporary Water Service
During construction, some businesses will be provided a temporary water supply, and access to the property will be required. Before construction starts, a contractor representative will request entry to the property.
Please note that internal fire suppression systems will not work if a building is being supplied by temporary water services.
Should it be necessary to disrupt water service, all affected customers will receive notice at least a day in advance.
Traffic Detours and Parking Impacts
Starting October 14, traffic detours and road closures will temporailry be in place. Please avoid parking where no parking signs have been set up. Access to your driveway may be affected during construction.
