Alpha House 211 Call Diversion Program - District 4
Through a partnership between Alpha House, Distress Centre, Calgary Police Service, and City of Calgary, District 4 (which includes most Ward 9 communities east of Deerfoot Trail) now has a call diversion program available to residents seeking assistance for non-emergency social disorder concerns.
Call 2-1-1 and the Alpha House HELP team will be deployed when EMS or CPS response is not required. HELP aims to be onsite within 20 minutes, and works to divert socially complex, high need individuals from law enforcement response and unnecessary healthcare use at the street level.
You can also call the police non-emergency line (403-266-1234 ex. 6) to be connected with the HELP diversion program. Or for city-wide assistance (outside of District 4) call the Alpha House HELP team directly at: 403-998-7388
Non-emergency scenarios that may warrant a call to this program could include:
an individual in a vulnerable state (possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol) in need of transportation
an individual under the influence in a physically vulnerable situation, such as being immobile in a high-traffic area
an individual having a poor mental health moment in public and appears vulnerable but no criminal activity is occurring and no weapons are involved
an unhoused individual sleeping in the doorway or emergency exit of a business
Alpha House also operates a mobile Needle Response Team, safely collecting needles and needle debris from public and private areas. If you find a needle, please call 403-796-5334 with details on the location.
