At tomorrow’s Combined Meeting of Council, a public hearing and debate will take place on the proposed amendments to the Land Use Bylaw, including a new Housing–Grade-Oriented district (H-GO) and improvements to the existing Residential–Grade-Oriented land use district (R-CG).
It is important to note that this is not blanket rezoning, but rather a step toward increasing housing diversity and Missing Middle housing in Calgary by adding flexibility to how different homes can be designed on a parcel of land.
These changes do not:
pre-approve development
increase the number of homes that are allowed
decrease the ability to make comments on future development applications
The Federation of Calgary Communities hosted two online discussions with the @yycplan team, answering FAQs on the proposed changes to residential zoning – these conversations offer important insight and information and are a great starting point if you are eager to learn more:
Members of the public are welcome to view and participate in tomorrow's Combined Meeting of Council, either in person or virtually. If you wish to share your comments or register to speak, more info can be found HERE.

As part of the change, residents living in large multi-residential buildings (four stories or more in height or with more than 20 dwelling units) are no longer eligible for current residential parking permits. However, Council approved the introduction of a new type of permit called a market permit which allows citizens who live in large multi-residential buildings to park in a Residential Parking Zone (RPZ) within 150 metres of their address. The permit is expected to be available towards the end of 2022.

Our first visit was with the amazing staff at Discovery House - a second-stage shelter giving women and children a longer-term, safe place to call home while they rebuild their lives after leaving domestic violence.
Later on, we met up with the team from Calgary Housing Company (CHC) to learn more about the vital work they are doing to increase access to affordable housing in our city.
Read MoreThe City of Calgary is constructing a new permanent water quality and stream flow monitoring station to replace an existing temporary device. The station will be located on Nose Creek where it connects to the Bow River.
This will provide The City with real-time flow and water quality data which allows us to better monitor the health of Nose Creek and plan for pathway closures during flood season.
We will be excavating a portion of the riverbank and installing pipes to allow for the deployment and removal of different monitoring devices.
The disturbed riverbank around the monitoring station will be restored using a combination of plant and natural and synthetic support materials to stabilize slopes, reduce erosion, and establish vegetation.
Construction is set for September 6 – September 30.
Approximately 700m of the Bow River Pathway north of Memorial Drive will be closed for the duration of the project (Sept. 6 – Sept. 30). The detour will direct pathway users to the west side of the Calgary Zoo parking lot and TELUS Spark area. Detour signage will be posted.
For safety, the work site will be fenced, and access will be restricted to construction personnel only.
No disruptions to drinking water or sanitary services are anticipated during the project.
We appreciate your patience as we work to improve the health and safety of our river and pathway.
Please contact 311 with any questions or concerns about this work.

There was a fire alarm where we entered a burning building in a frenetic but organized search for people to save in the pitch black smoke before attacking and dousing the fire itself - awkward, claustrophobic, physically demanding, desperate, and obviously juxtaposed - within the super-controlled circumstances of the training centre - with the very real danger of a real life burning building.

For residential homes that have fallen tree debris from the recent rain and wind storm, the City of Calgary has a plan in place to help properly address these items until July 15, 2022.
Citizens are being asked to utilize their green cart first for any organic storm debris that needs to be collected. Please ensure:
Branches and tree trunks must be less than 15 cm (six inches) in diameter and less than 1.25 m (four feet) in length.
Make sure the lid of the cart can close.
Always fill the green cart first.
If the green cart is full, place extra cut branches into paper yard bags, roll the tops of the bags closed and set at least 0.5 m (2 ft) to the side of the green cart for collection.
The City will be accepting fallen tree debris from residential customers at all 3 of our Waste Management Facilities, free of charge, until July 15, 2022.
