4TH AVENUE FLYOVER REHABILITATION - November Update
The 4th Avenue Flyover continue to undergo rehabilitation work that begin in Apriil 2024. This work is planned to carry through winter and will be completed in the Fall of 2025 . The flyover was constructed in 1982 and at an overall 430-meter span, the structure crosses over the Bow River and is Calgary's longest bridge. The flyover carries two lanes of traffic towards 3rd Street SE and is one of the primary routes into downtown.
The weather is beginning to turn but work on the 4th Avenue Flyover continues! Since our last update, The City has:
Completed all deck pours for the left-hand lane;
Installed bridge railings and curb conduits; and
Begun stripping the left-hand side overhang to transition work to the right-hand side of the bridge
Construction crews have nearly completed the planned work on the left side of the bridge and will begin work on the right side later in November. The flyover is on track to be completed in the fall of 2025.
Upcoming Closures:
Commuters can expect a full bridge closure beginning on November 15th at 9:00 pm, reopening to traffic on November 18th at 5:00 am, to transition work from the left side of the bridge to the right.
Following the full bridge closure, rolling overnight closures will be required for Riverfront Avenue, Memorial Drive, and Edmonton Trail to install the work platform for the right side of the bridge. The overnight closures will occur over a period of approximately four weeks.
Though impacts to Calgarians are anticipated to be minimal, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience during construction.
