Check out the YCAP Market in Inglewood!
Last week, the Ward 9 team had the pleasure of visiting the Youth Culinary Arts Program (YCAP) Market in the Inglewood Opportunity Hub.
A program by Wood’s Homes, YCAP was created to help fill a gap in alternative employment programs for multi-barriered youth in Calgary. YCAP teaches at-risk, unhoused youth (ages 15-29) employment skills in the culinary field - clients receive 9-12 weeks of on-site training from Red Seal chefs, free of charge. The program also coordinates with youth counsellors to provide support for mental health, employment, housing, and to help teach valuable life skills.
YCAP Market offers a variety of made-from-scratch, prepared meals - frozen soups, stews, curries, savoury and sweet pies, desserts, bread, and sauces. Jams, pickles, olives, and a variety of pantry staples such as pastas and grains are also available.
The Market itself serves as a social enterprise, helping to financially support YCAP programming while also allowing for paid employment opportunities for YCAP clients by selling food and products made in the program through a brick and mortar retail space.
The market also offers weekly lunch specials, pastries, and coffee and tea - grab-and-go meals and treats ready to take away and enjoy.
You can find the YCAP Market in the Inglewood Opportunity Hub - Pop by, have an awesome conversation with the staff working in the market, stock up your freezer, and tell your friends! This program is such an important one, providing amazing opportunities for multi-barrier youth AND offering delicious, nutritious meals to Calgarians.
