Volunteers Needed: 55th Annual Pathway and River Cleanup
After being paused due to Covid, the 2022 Pathway and River Cleanup is back and taking place May 13-15, 2022. Now in its 55th year, the Calgary Parks Foundation needs your help to ensure this year’s cleanup is a huge success!
Volunteer registration for this event is open from now until April 13th, 2022.
Since the Pathway and River Cleanup began in 1967, thousands of registered volunteers return year after year to help remove litter in Calgary’s parks, greenspaces, and along nearly 300 kilometres of pathways and river banks in every quadrant of the city.
Prior to the event, volunteers will need to assemble a team and register their group on the City of Calgary Website (ideally, groups of 10 or more are best for this event.) Once your team is assembled, identify one person in your group to be the designated leader/ primary contact person, and select a designated cleanup area. Any registered volunteers without a group will be able to join a City of Calgary team at one of three predetermined parks.
During the cleanup, volunteers remove the litter within their assigned location. The litter is collected in bags and placed beside pathways or in City garbage bins. City staff pick up the bags and transport them to a designated dump site where they are properly disposed of by Waste and Recycling Services.
TLC CLEANUP KITS
For citizens that are unable to participate in this event but would still like to show pride in their local parks and greenspaces, the City offers TLC Cleanup Kits - everything you need to organize a small litter cleanup in your neighbourhood.
TLC Kits are available for pickup at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary (2425 – Ninth Ave. SE) on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm, and soon will also be available at Ralph Klein Park. Arrangements can be made to deliver larger quantities of the kits to a specific drop-off location (eg. a community association, faith-based institution, or school.)
