Bridgeland Main Street: 2025 Construction Notice
The Bridgeland Main Streets project is moving into the third season of construction this spring and is expected to be complete by fall/winter 2025. As part of this project, The City of Calgary is completing important streetscape and infrastructure improvements along 1 Avenue N.E. While we are still finalizing the timelines, we will share additional updates in the coming weeks. For the most up to date details, please visit our website Calgary.ca/BridgelandMainstreet.
Upcoming Traffic Control (Stop Sign) Changes – Spring 2025
What: We will be installing new traffic controls at several intersections along 2 Avenue N.E. Stop controls will be changed from East-West stopping, to North-South stopping, with the exception of the 6A, 8A and 10 Street N.E. intersections. For more details about these traffic control changes, please visit Calgary.ca/BridgelandMainstreet
Where: Along 2 Avenue N.E. (see attached map for details)
When: Starting Spring 2025.
Why: The goal of these changes is to improve safety for all roadway users, reduce vehicle speeding, and create a more viable cycling route along 2 Avenue N.E. We will continue to monitor the safety and performance of the new traffic controls and new curb extensions (bump-outs) along 2 Avenue N.E., to identify any potential opportunities for further roadway safety improvements for all users.
Upcoming ENMAX Construction – Winter/Spring 2025
What: In support of the Bridgeland Main Street Project, ENMAX Power will be completing important utility upgrades. This work will include excavations in roadway, sidewalk, and boulevard areas to bury overhead powerlines and install upgraded utility equipment. After the utilities have been installed, ENMAX will remove the old overhead electrical lines and poles in the area, along with necessary roadway and sidewalk reconstruction.
Where: Along 1 Avenue N.E. between 4 and 6 Street. We will do our best to keep roadways open for use during construction. In some stages of work, there will be detours around construction areas. Please watch for crews and detour signage.
When: Winter to Summer 2025.The work will be completed in stages and each stage of work is expected to last 4-6 weeks, depending on weather conditions.
Why: The City is working with ENMAX to replace and upgrade old utility lines to newer, safer and more sustainable infrastructure that will extend the lifespan of the utilities in the area. These improvements will also align with the Bridgeland Main Street improvements that are planned in this corridor.
Detailed timelines, construction impacts, and work hours for ENMAX construction will be finalized soon. Updates will be posted on our website throughout the construction period. Please note that ENMAX will also directly communicate with affected properties. ENMAX is committed to completing the work as quickly as possible so that The City’s construction team can resume the streetscape and infrastructure improvements for Bridgeland Main Street during Spring to Fall 2025, ensuring the street is open and accessible to the community and businesses by the end of 2025.
