Ramsay/Inglewood Public Realm Improvements: Summer Construction Update
The City is investing in Ramsay/Inglewood to keep the community safe, beautiful and vibrant. With several City projects scheduled this season, we do our best to coordinate work schedules and ensure we’re delivering the right projects at the right time, with as little disruption to the communities as possible.
2024 Construction Schedule
12th Street SE water main upgrade project between 8th Avenue and 11th Avenue SE
This project is under way and is scheduled to wrap-up before the Calgary Stampede, weather dependent. Travelers should continue to expect traffic disruptions to facilitate this important work.
11/12 Streets SE bi-directional cycling path
Following the water main installation, The City will be making the existing 11/12 Streets SE bi-directional cycling path safer, until a new multi-use pathway (MUP) can be installed as part of the Public Realm Improvement Project, coming in 2025.
The current bi-directional cycling path on the west side of 11/12 Street SE will be changed to a one-way southbound cycle lane from the 8 Avenue Zoo Bridge to 11 Avenue SE.
A second, one-way northbound cycle lane will be added to the east side of 12 Street from 11 Avenue SE, north, to the 8 Avenue Zoo Bridge.
The southern limit of the cycle path has been changed from 21 Avenue to 11 Avenue SE. This was done to ensure some parking spaces could be retained, while providing a safe crossing, across 12 Street, at 11 Avenue, for bikes using the cycle lanes.
Temporary curbs with vertical indicators will be installed on both sides of 12 Street in Inglewood, improving safety and supporting emergency vehicle access along the corridor.
Vehicle traffic changes along 12 Street SE in Inglewood + Ramsay
The change to the cycle track infrastructure means there will be two lanes for vehicle traffic along 12 Street SE in Inglewood, something we’ve been planning for as part of the Ramsay-Inglewood Public Realm Improvements project. We assessed traffic in the area to ensure this lane reduction is a constructive change. Please visit the project webpage to learn more about the Ramsay-Inglewood Public Realm Improvements project.
Inglewood Sanitary Trunk Project
There are two active pathway closures along the Bow River (north and south) in effect until the project is complete in the summer of 2025. An anticipated road closure is planned this August and September at the intersection of 9 Street and 8 Avenue SE and three separate and phased detours are in effect on eastbound Memorial Drive (west of Baines Bridge) until July 2025.
9 Avenue SE sidewalk replacements
Currently occurring near 14 Street S.E. and future replacements planned to occur near 9 Street SE at the end of the summer.
More detailed project information will be shared closer to construction start dates. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to complete these important infrastructure and community improvement projects.
