In addition to these sessions, we have some exciting updates being shared by the Green Line Project Team including early design renderings for stations, streetscapes, and bridge design!

The Green Line team is currently exploring different bridges types for crossing the Bow River and Prince's Island Park. A bridge type has not been confirmed. We are still working to define what the bridge planning and design process will be, including the role that the public might have. We will outline our process when presenting our recommendation for the updated the updated Stage 1 alignment at the April 23 Green Line Committee. If the recommendation is approved, we will be engaging Calgarians to find out what considerations are most important to them when it comes to the bridge design.

The above renderings are of four different bridge types being explored. Below, you’ll find a short description to help you understand more about each design.

From L to R:

  1. Constant Depth Viaduct - This is a simpler bridge structure than other options, and has a regular d of bridge pillars which does not change going over the Bow River.

Examples of Constant Depth Viaduct Bridges

  2. Trestle Bridge Viaduct - This features a unique pillar design in a v-shape that allows for smaller bridge structure thickness. It would provide a regular separation of bridge pillars which does not change going over the Bow River. Examples of Trestle Bridges

  3. Tied Arch Bridge Main Span - This design stands out more due to a longer span over the Bow River with an arch that extends above the bridge structure to provide support. Examples of Tied-Arch Bridges

  4. Cable Stayed Bridge - This design stands out more due to a longer span over the Bow River with a vertical pillar that extends above the bridge structure to provide support through cables attached to it. Examples of Cable-Stayed Bridges w/ Semi-Fan Systems
