GreenLine Update: Revised Phase 1 Project + Capital Request

To address rising cost inflation that is impacting all major infrastructure projects across North America, Calgary City Council has approved a revised Phase 1 project and capital request for the Green Line.

The Green Line LRT is moving forward and on track to begin main construction from Lynnwood/ Millican in the southeast to Eau Claire by the end of 2024. Phase 1 south to Shepard, as well as future extensions north or south, will proceed when additional funding is in place.

BLUE LINE CTRAIN CLOSURE - JULY 27 - 28, 2024

In order to accommodate CTrain maintenance work. Beginning Saturday, July 27 at the start of service until Sunday, July 28 at the end of service, there will be no Blue Line CTrain service between City Hall/Bow Valley College and Marlborough Stations. There will be various replacement shuttles to help support the closure.

Ward 9 Connections: Calgary's Pathway & Bikeway Network (NEW Pop-UP Dates Added)

The City of Calgary is delivering new routes and local improvements to Calgary's Pathway and Bikeway Network to enhance healthy, safe, and accessible travel options in Calgary.

We're developing dedicated pathway and bikeway routes in Ward 9 (Penbrooke Meadows, Forest Heights, Forest Lawn, Dover, Erin Woods, Eastfield and Marlborough Park) aligning with Calgary's established Pathway and Bikeway Network. The proposed routes currently serve residential, recreation, shopping, education, and work destination. When the routes are improved, they will provide safe, healthy, and affordable travel choices for people of all ages and all abilities.

Scotia Place: The New Heart of Entertainment

The newly released design of Scotia Place is influenced by the ancestral and historical land of Indigenous Peoples and the culturally significant site that embodies our shared purpose – to gather.

It brings together Indigenous cultural perspectives with Calgary’s and the region’s natural beauty, reflecting the four elements of nature – fire, water, land and air.

Scotia Place, which is scheduled to open in fall 2027, celebrates the area’s importance as a place for all, positioned as a landmark attraction in Calgary’s emerging Culture + Entertainment District. More than a building, however, the 10-acre city block is designed for community and connection, which includes a community rink, outdoor and indoor plaza spaces, four restaurants, the Calgary Flames Team Store, and future development opportunity in the northeast corner.

2024 Calgary Fringe Fest: Aug 2-10

The 2024 Calgary Fringe Festival is taking place Friday, August 2 to Saturday, August 10, 2024 at various venues throughout Inglewood.

What is a Fringe? Fringes are ‘open access’ theatre festivals, bringing together emerging and established artists alike to tell their stories on stage. The first Fringe started in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1947 and has grown into one of the biggest performing arts festivals in the world.

Salvation Army Backpack + School Supply Fundraiser

2024 HMCS Calgary Barn Burner Photos

This years HMCS Barn Burner was a wild success!

Councillors Kourtney Penner and Gian-Carlo Carra along with the Friends of HMCS Calgary Committee welcomed nearly 600 friends, family, community organizations. and service members to this year’s HMCS Calgary Barn Burner! All to help raise funds for the Foothills Burn Treatment Centre and The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary on behalf of HMCS Calgary, our city’s namesake Navy ship.

Activate YYC Bow Waters Canoe Club Mural

ActivateYYC and local artists NASARIMBA recently joined forces to create a spectacular mural at the Bow Waters Canoe Club right below the 17th Avenue SE overpass.

This space is a hidden gem, running alongside the irrigation canal and multi-use pathway system in SE Calgary. It’s incredible to see the beautification muralists can bring to otherwise plane spaces, and this project is a standout example of incredible local artists partnering with equally incredible community organizations to create really special and vibrant places in our neighbourhoods.

BLUE LINE CTRAIN CLOSURE: Franklin - Whitehorn, June 29 - July 1, 2024

Starting Saturday, June 29 at the start of service until Monday, July 1 at 09:00am, there will be no Blue Line CTrain service between Franklin and Whitehorn Stations due to CTrain maintenance work.

Blue Line CTrain:

The Blue Line CTrain from the West and Downtown will terminate at Franklin Station, while the CTrain from the Northeast will terminate at Whitehorn Station.
The Blue Line CTrain Replacement Shuttle will provide two-way service making stops at Franklin, Marlborough, Rundle and Whitehorn Stations (see attached bulletin RC-24419 for routing and stops).

City Building - Phase 3: The Calgary Plan

The Calgary Plan guides how Calgary will grow and change over the next 30 years and sets out direction for future land use, mobility networks, servicing and investment. A Municipal Development Plan (MDP) is The City of Calgary’s highest-level planning document. It guides future land use, built form, and growth.

The draft Calgary Plan is ready for public input, and we want to hear from you. Phase 3 of engagement focuses on reviewing the draft Calgary Plan and collecting feedback on the proposed direction.

There will be good food, good drink, good music, and most of all good people! This event is family-friendly (kids under 12 are free!) with proceeds going to support two yet-to-be-announced local charities.

Stampede Parking Fundraiser at Ramsay Elementary School

If you’re headed to the Stampede and driving is part of your plan, support Ramsay Elementary School by parking in their lot near the Ramsay Rink.

This is an annual fundraiser put on by the parent association to support Ramsay Elementary students. It’s a short walk or a free shuttle ride to and from the grounds, plus, it’s the best parking rate around! $20 per day or $10 after 7pm.

4th Avenue Flyover Rehabilitation: Reopening for Stampede

The 4th Avenue Flyover will be reopening to two lanes for Stampede

Originally built in 1982, Calgary’s longest bridge structure, the 4th Avenue Flyover needs major repairs and improvements. It has been serving motorists accessing Downtown Calgary daily, for 42 years. As one of the main access points to downtown, the familiar flyover typically carries two lanes of traffic to 3rd Street S.E., but has been reduced to a single lane since construction began this Spring.

Ahead of Stampede, the flyover will be restored to two lanes for the duration of the Stampede from July 5-14 to reduce congestion and improve mobility as we welcome thousands of visitors to Calgary.
