Green Line Update: Province backs out of promised funding
What has happened to the Green Line is devastating.
It’s hard to articulate the destruction the UCP’s decision has caused- the scale of waste, the money thrown away, the opportunities lost. But the long-term consequences of this decision will be colossal too. The erosion of Alberta's credibility as a reliable, trustworthy, and collaborative partner will make future infrastructure projects throughout the province deeply challenging and exorbitantly more expensive going forward.
And yet all of this pales in comparison to the most significant loss - denying Calgarians the city-shaping transit system we desperately need and deserve. Irreversible damage has already been done.
Early indications suggest that the provincial government recognizes they’ve made a mistake and are now attempting to save face by advancing a new plan to replace the current Green Line project. While we welcome the province becoming involved in transit delivery, right now it is very difficult to trust their intentions are sincere and well-considered. Moreover, it’s impossible to look past the massive waste of public funds caused by their hasty decision.
The province needs to hear that they’ve made a massive misstep. Please take a moment to share your support for the Green Line by emailing:
