Soccer Centre Dome & Artificial Turf Field Upgrade
The Calgary Soccer Centre (CSC) has been experiencing increased demand for indoor multi-use recreation space for its users. The site currently has three (3) artificial turf (AT) fields and one (1) Class B natural turf field.
This project will incorporate much needed upgrades to the Class B natural turf field by converting it to an artificial turf field which will be covered by an air supported structure (dome) and attached amenity building for year-round opportunities to practice, play, train and compete in.
The northwest parking lot has been underutilized as a soil stockpile covers a portion of the existing gravel parking lot. The project will include upgrades which will remove the stockpile and expand the parking lot.
The main building at the CSC experiences seasonal flooding at the field entrances. We are installing flood mitigation measures to provide proper drainage and prevent future storm water issues at this facility.
Project Scope
Currently, operational efficiency is not being maximized with running a single natural turf field. This project will turn the natural turf field into a full-sized indoor rectangular artificial turf field, providing citizens with a high-quality space to practice and play year-round. This field will also increase the CSC’s capacity to host tournaments.
Upgrading the natural turf field to a full FIFA size 11v11 indoor artificial turf field.
Constructing a new amenity building that will include change rooms, referee change room and a universal public washroom.
Building an air-supported structure (dome) over the new artificial turf field.
Improving the parking lot infrastructure at CSC.
Providing flood mitigation and upgrading storm water management upgrades at the main CSC building.
Upcoming Constructions Work
Construction will be completed by the contractor, Graham Construction. It is anticipated to start on April 11, 2024, and be completed in Q1 2025 with some seasonal work extending into Q2 2025. Access to CSC facilities will remain open throughout construction.
Construction impacts are:
The natural turf field will be closed.
The west gravel parking lot and west road entrance will be closed. People needing to park can use the north parking entrance at CSC or utilize street parking along 68 Avenue S.E. and 48 Street S.E.
As part of the project, 89 trees in the parking lot will need to be removed and 82 new trees will be planted.
Installing flood mitigation measures to provide proper drainage and prevent future flooding. The North and South Entrances will be closed in phases to complete this work to ensure continuous access for users.
