Bridge Expansion Joint Replacement - 17th Ave SE + Bonnybrook Bridge

The City through its annual bridge inspection program has identified deterioration of expansion joints at various bridge locations across the City and scheduled repairs on a priority basis. Eight structures were completed under the program in 2021/2022 and seven more are scheduled to be completed this year.

The timely repair/replacement of these joints must be carried out to maintain a safe traffic service and prevent future unplanned road closures. This project will extend the service life of the bridges and improve safety for drivers. 

• Eastbound and Westbound on 17 Avenue SE over Western Irrigation District (WID) Canal
  Estimated timeline: Mid-April to early July

• Eastbound and Westbound Ogden Road SE Bridge - Bonnybrook Bridge over Bow River Estimated timeline: End of May – end of September

 The project scope includes:

• Expansion joint replacement

• Expansion joint seal replacement

• Barrier repair

• Other miscellaneous concrete repairs

Impact:

Construction will be completed in stages with the work sequenced in a manner that will allow traffic across the bridges while the work is in progress. Temporary walkways will be provided as required to route pedestrians and cyclists around work areas during the construction.

 To minimize the traffic impact, work is planned for nighttime and weekends. Construction will typically occur from 9:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m. on weeknights, and during the day on weekends/holidays as necessary.
