Pre-Engagement: Beaumont Circus Project
Beginning August 22 until September 20, 2024, The City of Calgary will be conducting online pre-engagement for the Beaumont Circus project. This site is located in the Northeast quadrant of Calgary at the intersection of 15 Ave NE & 4 St NE, within the community of Renfrew.
History + Background
Beaumont Circus has been identified as a redevelopment opportunity under Phase 2 of the City of Calgary’s Established Area Growth and Change Strategy (EAGCS). The EAGCS is a program aimed at enhancing public spaces and infrastructure in established communities experiencing, or projected to experience, growth and change. Renfrew, where Beaumont Circus is located, has been identified as one such community.
Beaumont Circus presents a unique opportunity to transform a currently under-utilized intersection into a vibrant community park space. Historically, it was developed as part of the City Beautiful movement, which focused on creating aesthetically-pleasing, curated green spaces integrated into the urban fabric. This project allows us to pay homage to its original intent and bring the space back to life for current and future residents of Renfrew.
Through this early engagement period, the goal is to find an appropriate balance between creating a park space for passive and active recreation, while also establishing an attractive and meaningful community destination.
Current Phase (Pre-Engagement)
During the pre-engagement phase, The City will be asking the local community to share their thoughts on transforming Beaumont Circus into a community park space. The public engagement will primarily focus on gathering input on what features and amenities residents would like to see in the new park.
Residents are invited to share their feedback on Beaumont Circus from August 22 through September 20, 2024 by visiting the link below:
Next Steps
After the pre-engagement in August-September 2024, The City will engage the broader community in Fall 2024 to present design options for the space and gather feedback on each option. We will share more details when they become available.
Following the final public engagement, we will refine the concept design for Beaumont Circus. A "What We Heard" report will be developed and shared with the community outlining the final design choices. The final design concept is planned for completion in Winter 2025, followed by a detailed design phase, with construction planned for Summer-Fall 2025.
