Bridgeland Main Streets - Phase I Construction Update
The first phase of the Bridgeland Main Streets project is moving into construction. Phase One of the Bridgeland Main Street is between Memorial Drive and 2 Avenue N.E. Work is primarily located along Edmonton Trail, with improvements at the north end of 4 Street N.E. and the Gateway area near Memorial Drive.
Roadway Open Cut & Road Closures
The City of Calgary Signals will be doing electrical work for upgrades to signals infrastructure. To complete this work, Cana Utilities and ALSA Road Construction need to close access to Meredith Road east and west of Edmonton Trail N.E. between 7 am to 3 pm each day to open the roadway. Work is expected from August 10 to August 17, 2022. Pedestrian accommodation will be provided in the area, however, vehicle traffic will be detoured. Please travel with care in the area and watch for changes to detour signs.
Further, August 20 and 21, 2022 the ALSA Road Construction will be to required open cut to the roadway across Edmonton Trail at Marsh Road. Work will alternate from one side of the road to the other to maintain a travel lane along Edmonton Trail during the electrical work.
Also, August 26, 2022 the ALSA Road Construction will be to required open cut to the roadway across Marsh Road on the east of Edmonton Trail. Pedestrian accommodation will be provided in the area, however, vehicle traffic will be detoured.
Sidewalk Closure & Replacement
Starting the week of August 15, 2022, ALSA Road Construction will start work on the west side of Edmonton Trail. First, they will close the sidewalk on the west side of Edmonton Trail N.E. between 1 Avenue and 2 Avenue N.E.
Then, starting the week of August 18, 2022, the west side of Edmonton Trail N.E. between Meredith and Marsh Roads will be closed. These closures are required to replace the sidewalk and access along this section of Edmonton Trail N.E.
The work is expected to take 8-10 weeks to complete. During this time, sidewalk users will be detoured to the east side of the roadway, which means that timing for these closures is dependent on the completion of work for the sidewalks on the east side of Edmonton Trail. We do not anticipate any business access or street parking impacts during construction.
What you can expect
When construction is finished, you can expect to see wider sidewalks, more plants and trees, added street lighting, new crosswalks with wheelchair ramps complete with tactile plates, and improved travel lanes for people wheeling and driving.
To complete the new sidewalks, ALSA Road Construction will be in the area doing sandblasting. We expect the sandblasting to take about two days and we will give notice to area residents and businesses when we have the dates of sandblasting. We do our best to mitigate and control the dust produced. We encourage area residents to close windows and doors to reduce exposure to dust.
