Temporary Pathway Detour - Repairs 26 Street S.E. and 24 Avenue S.E.
The IC9A outfall, located on the east bank of the Western Headworks Canal near the intersection of 26 Street S.E. and 24 Avenue S.E., will undergo repairs starting the week of October 17, 2022. It is important to note that a pathway detour will be in place for the duration of the project.
What is an Outfall?
Stormwater is rain or snow melt from our roofs, lawns and roadways that enters the storm drains on our streets and travels through an underground pipe system eventually draining into our rivers. The site where the stormwater flows from the pipes and into the river is called an outfall.
Project Details
The existing pipe sections at the outfall are damaged and have partially collapsed, resulting in seepage between pipe sections. This work will replace damaged pipe sections with new pipe, which will allow flows to enter the Western Headworks Canal, just east of the Bow River.
The disturbed areas of the slope will be restored and sediment that has washed into the canal will be removed.
Construction Impacts
Work is scheduled to begin the week of October 17 and will take 2-4 weeks to complete.
Work will be done Mondays through Saturdays, from 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
A pathway detour will be required. See the IC9A Outfall Location map (above) for details. More information will be posted onsite once construction has begun.
Construction vehicles, equipment and a small laydown area for supplies will be located near 26 Street S.E. and 24 Avenue S.E. See the above image for the location of the laydown area and construction boundary.
