Two Beautiful New Parks for Ward 9!
Thanks to the hard work of Parks Foundation, their funding supporters, and some incredible community collaborations, Ward 9 is now home to two really special updated parks.
George Moss Park
What started as a request for a basketball court for the kids at the Youth Centre of Calgary ended up being a larger scale update to George Moss Park. In the heart of Ogden, George Moss Park officially reopened on September 7, 2024.
This new park offers a variety of exciting features, including artisticly decorated sport courts, an expanded playground and tot lot, and a community plaza with seating and picnic areas. There are also future plans to for phase 2 of the park update which is hoping to see a skateboard park and wheeling pump track.
Forest Lawn Park
The redesign of Forest Lawn Park has helped create a more accessible space, offering opportunities for play, rejuvenation, gathering, and physical activity. We were grateful to celebrate the reopening with community on September 19, 2024
New amenities in the park include a sport court, seating, a community gathering area, paved pathways, and public art. Additionally, thanks to the City of Calgary Parks and Playground Amenities Program (PAPA), a new inclusive playground was built, allowing for more equitable participation and support for park users with mobility considerations.
A special thanks to Parks Foundation and their project partners who made both of these parks possible: The Government of Alberta, The City of Calgary, Green Line, Youth Centres of Calgary, Forest Lawn Community Association, Flames Foundation, Sofina Foundation, The Calgary Foundation, and Thornhill Child Care Society.
