TRAVEL SAFE STUDENT VIDEO CONTEST
Calling all budding filmmakers! Put on your director’s hat, grab your camera, and help make our city’s streets safer for everyone.
As part of the City’s ongoing efforts to further public traffic safety education, the Mobility team is launching a new public education contest targeting Calgary students registered in Grades 6-12.
The Travel Safe Student Video Contest invites students to create an original short video to promote safety while traveling on city streets, sidewalks and/or pathways. The contest is run by the City of Calgary with support from additional community partners including the Calgary Police Service and Calgary Public Library.
Education and public promotion efforts around this contest will aim to:
Increase understanding of traffic safety rules.
Provide a trusted source of information on traffic safety rules.
Encourage conversations between parents/caregivers and children about how to stay safe when traveling on city streets.
Foster a sense of confidence in school-aged children to understand and apply safe travel behaviours for independent travel.
Provide a creative outlet for student expression and peer-to-peer learning.
All Calgary students in Grades 6 to 12 are invited to create an original 30-second video to promote safety while traveling on city streets, sidewalks and/or pathways for a chance to win an Explore Calgary Prize Pack worth more than $1,200!
There are also two runner up prizes valued at $250.
Finalists will be showcased at a public viewing party and the winning videos will be used in future safety education initiatives and published online!
