Temporary Red Line Closure - Nov 24 - Dec 4, 2023
As The City prepares to switch to the permanent track and platform at the rebuilt Victoria Park/Stamped Station, a partial closure of the RedLine LRT is needed to safely accommodate this work.
From 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 24 to 4:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4, Victoria Park/Stampede, Erlton/Stampede, and 39 Avenue stations will be closed. The southbound Red Line will terminate at City Hall/Bow Valley College Station and northbound Red Line will terminate at Chinook Station, with no CTrain service in between.
Anticipated impacts to Calgarians
In addition to the CTrain disruption, there will be various lane closures on northbound Macleod Trail throughout the nine days.
From Monday, November 27 to Thursday, November 30, during the morning rush (6 a.m. to 9 a.m.), all three lanes will be open, with various lane closures throughout the rest of the day.
Overnight, northbound Macleod Trail will be down to one open lane.
Over the course of the nine-day switch, crews will work 24-hours a day to tie the new tracks to the rest of the line, string overhead power lines to connect the new station to the network, install train signals, relocate pedestrian track crossings, build pedestrian access to the new station, and start demolition of the temporary platform.
It will take longer than usual to travel downtown along the Red Line or by car. Please plan ahead and leave extra time for your journey.

What we’re doing to help
We know that the closure will cause significant delays to transit customers and motorists, and we’re working on supporting you in your commute around the city.
We will be adjusting the timing of traffic lights along Macleod Trail to help keep traffic flowing.
There will be no turning onto Macleod Trail northbound at 13, 14, 15, or 17 Avenues to reduce congestion and keep northbound traffic flowing.
We will have tow trucks on standby at key locations in case there are issues/accidents, to help traffic recover more quickly.
We will have an enhanced snow and ice control response at shuttle bus stops and on shuttle routes throughout the closure.
We know that despite these efforts, it will still be challenging to make your way around the city during this time. We recommend you plan to adjust your commute during this time, whether you’re taking transit or driving, or consider working alternate hours, if you’re able, to avoid peak travel periods.
