YYC Hot Chocolate Festival || Feb 1-28, 2022
It’s back! YYC Hot Chocolate Fest is warming us all up this February! This decade-long annual event hosted by Calgary Meals on Wheels aims to highlight local businesses and Calgary’s vibrant culture, while also helping support an awesome local charity.
Happening now through February 28th, participating cafés, restaurants, and chocolatiers are competing for the coveted title (and bragging rights) to YYC's Best Hot Chocolate!
With over 115 locations (16 in Ward 9!) and 98 different drinks to try, Calgarians can sip their way through a variety of hot cocoas and determine the blend that wins! Best of all, $1 - $3 from every cup sold supports Calgary Meals on Wheels, an organization providing the comfort of healthy nutritious meals to those experiencing hardship in our city.
Councillor Carra and Mayor Gondek met at Baya Rica Cafe in Bridgeland earlier today to try out one of their two festival flavours offerings.
Chai'm Dreaming Of You is a blend of macadamia nut milk, rich chocolate syrup and a spicy chai mix, finished off with whip and cinnamon.
Pina Chocolata is made with white rum (but can be done without) and is a delicious blend of coconut milk and coconut cream, pineapple juice and chocolate and is topped off with a house-made whip and toasted coconut.
Visit the YYC Hot Chocolate Fest website to view all the delicious concoctions - there is a downloadable app as well as an interactive map listing participating locations and what creative offerings they have in store. Then, once you’ve tried your beverage, come back to the website and rate a drink - votes help determine who will reign supreme with the best hot chocolate awards.
An extra big ‘thank you’ goes out to Baya Rica Cafe for having us! Be sure to pop by and check them out.
